How to Access Ford Digital Service Records (UK)
The Ford digital record system
Ford is unusually good on owner access — FordPass shows the actual Digital Service Record, and it transfers to the next owner — but that only ever covers work done at a Ford dealer. Given how many Fords move to independents after warranty, the app can look sparse on a car that has been perfectly well maintained, so the franchised record and the paperwork need reading together.
The record itself is kept as Ford Digital Service Record, digital in the UK from around 2022. Newer cars may have no paper book at all — the record lives entirely in the system, keyed to the VIN.
Route 1: The owner portal
If you own the car, the FordPass account is the first place to look. You'll need to prove ownership to link the vehicle.
- Download the FordPass app and create a Ford account.
- Add the vehicle by VIN or registration and verify ownership.
- Open the Service tab, then Service History, to view work carried out at Ford dealers.
- Ask a Ford dealer to confirm anything missing by VIN.
FordPass shows the Digital Service Record itself, not just reminders — and it carries over to a subsequent owner once they register the car, which is unusual. Only work done at authorised Ford dealers appears; independent servicing never reaches it, however well documented.
Route 2: Through a dealer
Ford dealers retrieve records by VIN. Ford's large network and high-volume models mean records are common but often mixed with independent servicing that the digital record will not show.

Route 4: An instant report
If you don’t own the car yet — you’re buying used — or you simply want the record without a dealer visit, an aggregated report pulls the franchised-network data against the VIN and returns it in one place. Known quirks & gaps
- Ford replaced the paper service book with a Digital Service Record in 2022, so a car registered since then may have no book at all.
- FordPass is one of the few owner apps that shows completed services rather than only what's due — and the record follows the car to its next registered owner.
- High-volume Fiesta/Focus cars are frequently serviced by independents, so franchised records can be partial and the app will show only the dealer-visit half of the story.
- Transit and other commercial vehicles often have fleet-managed service records.
- Performance models (ST, RS) commonly see specialist servicing.

Does Ford still issue a paper service book?
Ford has effectively moved to digital records, so newer cars may have no paper book at all — the history lives in the manufacturer/dealer system and is retrieved by VIN.
Can I see a Ford's service history before buying it?
Ford's owner tools are tied to the registered owner's account, so as a prospective buyer you generally can't log in and view the history yourself. The practical options are to have the seller show you the record, ask a dealer to confirm it by VIN, or use an aggregated report that pulls the franchised-network data directly.
How much do Ford dealers charge to print service records?
Ford dealers don't publish a standard charge for printing service records — some do it free as a goodwill gesture, others apply an admin fee, and buyer (non-owner) requests are at each dealer's discretion. We're collecting first-hand figures; if you have one, we'd like to hear it.
Does the FordPass app show full service history?
Yes — FordPass is one of the more transparent owner apps and can show completed services carried out in the Ford network, not just upcoming reminders. It still only works for the account holder.
Can an independent garage access my Ford service history?
Not really — independent garages can buy technical and repair information to work on your car, but they generally can't read your full franchised Ford service history. SERMI, which is sometimes mentioned here, went live in the UK on 1 April 2026, but it governs access to security-related data (keys and immobilisers), not the maintenance record.
