The UK Vehicle Service Record Access Index

Paper service books are giving way to digital ones. Manufacturers increasingly keep your car’s maintenance record in a system tied to its VIN and controlled by the dealer network — which is more secure, but harder to see. Plenty still issue a paper book alongside it. This index documents, for every major brand sold in the UK, exactly how a driver or a prospective buyer can get at that record: the owner portal, whether it shows the real history or just reminders, the dealer route and its likely cost, and where independent access stands. Where we haven’t confirmed a fact first-hand, we say so rather than guess.

How this index works

Every fact is drawn from a single structured dataset and carries a confidence badge: reported (from official sources or desk research), unconfirmed, or verified — a tier we reserve for facts confirmed first-hand, and which nothing currently meets. Dealer charges in particular are hard to pin down — brands don’t publish them — so every one of them sits as unconfirmed while we gather first-hand figures. Latest research

We plan to publish original studies on how service records vary across the UK fleet — dealer-charge transparency, portal capability and data gaps by brand. None are live yet; for now the master comparison table above is the dataset.
