How to Access Land Rover Digital Service Records (UK)

Last verified: August 2026Reported

The Land Rover digital record system

Land Rover history is high-stakes for value — Range Rovers in particular reward an unbroken franchised record — and the good news is that owners can read it themselves through JLR's Online Service History portal rather than the InControl app. Buyers still can't, so verification before purchase means a retailer or an aggregated report.

The record itself is kept as JLR digital service record. Whether a paper book is issued depends on the model and year.

Route 1: The owner portal

If you own the car, the Land Rover InControl / Remote app account is the first place to look. You'll need to prove ownership to link the vehicle.

  1. For reminders and connected features, register for InControl and sign in to the Remote app.
  2. For completed work, go to the Land Rover site under Ownership, then Servicing, then Online Service History.
  3. Sign in with your VIN and proof of ownership.
  4. Ask a Land Rover Retailer to confirm anything the portal doesn't show.

As with Jaguar, the app and the history live in different places: InControl is reminder-led, while the completed record sits in JLR's separate Online Service History portal. On a Range Rover, where a documented franchised history carries real money, it is worth knowing that portal exists.

Route 2: Through a dealer

Land Rover Retailers retrieve records by VIN. Range Rover values are especially sensitive to a complete franchised history.

  • Prints for the owner: yes, on request by VIN
  • Prints for a prospective buyer: at the dealer's discretion (unconfirmed)
  • Typical charge: Unconfirmed

Bring the V5C and photo ID if you’re the owner. See the V5C guidance on GOV.UK. Know a real charge for Land Rover? Help us verify it.

Route 3: Independent garages & SERMI

JLR provides technical data to independents via its topix portal; SERMI relates to security data, not the maintenance record.

Independent technical access via JLR's technical information portal (topix).

Route 4: An instant report

If you don’t own the car yet — you’re buying used — or you simply want the record without a dealer visit, an aggregated report pulls the franchised-network data against the VIN and returns it in one place. It’s the most direct route when account access isn’t available. You can pull Land Rover franchised-network records in one place.

Known quirks & gaps

  • Range Rover and Defender resale leans heavily on a documented main-dealer history.
  • The Online Service History portal is separate from the InControl app, and it is the one that holds completed work — a distinction that costs owners a dealer visit when they don't know it.
  • Off-road and towing use adds wear items that a good record should reflect.
  • Shares the JLR system with Jaguar, so records can key across both by VIN.

Frequently asked questions

Does Land Rover still issue a paper service book?

Whether a paper book was issued for a given Land Rover depends on the model and year; we haven't confirmed this across the range. Either way, the authoritative record is the digital one held against the VIN.

Can I see a Land Rover's service history before buying it?

Land Rover's owner tools are tied to the registered owner's account, so as a prospective buyer you generally can't log in and view the history yourself. The practical options are to have the seller show you the record, ask a dealer to confirm it by VIN, or use an aggregated report that pulls the franchised-network data directly.

How much do Land Rover dealers charge to print service records?

Land Rover dealers don't publish a standard charge for printing service records — some do it free as a goodwill gesture, others apply an admin fee, and buyer (non-owner) requests are at each dealer's discretion. We're collecting first-hand figures; if you have one, we'd like to hear it.

Does the Land Rover InControl / Remote app app show full service history?

Yes — Land Rover InControl / Remote app is one of the more transparent owner apps and can show completed services carried out in the Land Rover network, not just upcoming reminders. It still only works for the account holder.

Can an independent garage access my Land Rover service history?

Not really — independent garages can buy technical and repair information to work on your car, but they generally can't read your full franchised Land Rover service history. SERMI, which is sometimes mentioned here, went live in the UK on 1 April 2026, but it governs access to security-related data (keys and immobilisers), not the maintenance record.
