How to Access MINI Digital Service Records (UK)

Last verified: July 2026Reported

The MINI digital record system

MINI inherits BMW's strong digital record and the same limitation — the app shows what is due, not what is done. A retailer printout or an aggregated report is the way to see the whole history, particularly when buying used.

The record itself is kept as MINI digital service history, digital in the UK from around 2014. Newer cars may have no paper book at all — the record lives entirely in the system, keyed to the VIN.

Route 1: The owner portal

If you own the car, the MINI App / MINI Connected account is the first place to look. You'll need to prove ownership to link the vehicle.

  1. Register a MINI ID and sign in to the MINI App.
  2. Add the vehicle by VIN and confirm ownership.
  3. Read the Condition Based Servicing tiles for upcoming work.
  4. Ask a MINI Retailer to print the digital service history by VIN for the completed record.

MINI runs on BMW Group infrastructure, so the app shows Condition Based Servicing status rather than a stamped past history.

Route 2: Through a dealer

MINI Retailers retrieve the record by VIN through the same system as BMW. Buyer access and fees are set locally.

  • Prints for the owner: yes, on request by VIN
  • Prints for a prospective buyer: at the dealer's discretion (unconfirmed)
  • Typical charge: Unconfirmed

Bring the V5C and photo ID if you’re the owner. See the V5C guidance on GOV.UK. Know a real charge for MINI? Help us verify it.

Route 3: Independent garages & SERMI

As with BMW, SERMI relates to security data via AOS/ISTA, not to reading the service record.

Shares BMW Group's AOS portal for independent technical access.

Background: the SERMI scheme (sermi.eu) and our plain-English SERMI guide.

Route 4: An instant report

If you don’t own the car yet — you’re buying used — or you simply want the record without a dealer visit, an aggregated report pulls the franchised-network data against the VIN and returns it in one place. It’s the most direct route when account access isn’t available. You can get the MINI report without a dealer visit.

Known quirks & gaps

  • MINI and BMW share dealer systems, so a MINI serviced at a combined retailer keys to the same group record by VIN.
  • TLC service packs bought at purchase pre-pay several services and show as scheduled entries.
  • Condition Based Servicing makes intervals mileage-driven, not annual.

Frequently asked questions

Does MINI still issue a paper service book?

MINI has effectively moved to digital records, so newer cars may have no paper book at all — the history lives in the manufacturer/dealer system and is retrieved by VIN.

Can I see a MINI's service history before buying it?

MINI's owner tools are tied to the registered owner's account, so as a prospective buyer you generally can't log in and view the history yourself. The practical options are to have the seller show you the record, ask a dealer to confirm it by VIN, or use an aggregated report that pulls the franchised-network data directly.

How much do MINI dealers charge to print service records?

MINI dealers don't publish a standard charge for printing service records — some do it free as a goodwill gesture, others apply an admin fee, and buyer (non-owner) requests are at each dealer's discretion. We're collecting first-hand figures; if you have one, we'd like to hear it.

Does the MINI App / MINI Connected app show full service history?

MINI App / MINI Connected mainly shows what's due next rather than a stamped list of completed work, so it isn't a full service-history readout. The complete record sits in the MINI dealer system.

Can an independent garage access my MINI service history?

Not really — independent garages can buy technical and repair information to work on your car, but they generally can't read your full franchised MINI service history. SERMI, which is sometimes mentioned here, governs access to security-related data (keys and immobilisers), not the maintenance record.
